Sony came out with some big hits! No holding back, they wanted to win this E3….and they very well may have! If you missed it and want to see the conference in its entirety, here you go: https://youtu.be/GwofRzkROo4
God of War 4 – TBC
A bearded teacher of war is upon us. We see Kratos make his return, teaching a child how to hunt, fight and survive. With the power of the PS4 behind it, this looks like it will be the best looking God of War yet!
The Last Guardian – 25 October 2016
Horizon Zero Dawn – 28 February 2017
An open world RPG with a Darksiders feel, based around a female protagonist who must leave her tribe to find answers surrounding some kind of mechanised threat. It seems to combine old style elements of bows and homemade bombs with newer elements like overriding a mechanical animal so you can ride it. The combat looked fluid and responsive, and it was pretty of course, however this didn’t really look like a stand out to me – it didn’t have anything particularly unique to make it stand out from the crowd.
Detroit: Become Human
A futuristic shooter based around an android named Connor, a hostage negotiator tasked with saving a child from a rogue android. It appears that you have the ability to reconstruct crime scenes to put together the chain of events, which gives you more options to choose from when dealing with a situation – which include morality choices, and many different outcomes. Graphics look crisp and futuristic; however, the face animations were a little off.
Playstation VR – 13 October 2016
Playstation VR will launch at $399USD and will have 50 games available fron launch to end of year. Some that were listed for it (with minimal details, including whether they will be available at launch) were:
- Impulse Gear – a futuristic space shooter
- Star Wars Battlefront – X-wing space battles
- Batman Arkham VR – https://youtu.be/SwdZvJfxqtE
Resident Evil 7 – 24 January 2017
RE7!! Showcased as part of the Playstation VR. They didn’t show a great deal, however it looked very closed in and creepy. The demo is available tonight for PS Plus members. The game will be playable as VR or regular.
Final Fantasy XV – 30 September 2016
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare – 4 November 2016
I’m not a CoD player, but I’ll admit that this looked really nice. There is a mix of gameplay, between flying, no-gravity space battles and inside the ships.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
Beautiful graphics show that it has been rebuilt for the next gen, but still with the same memorable voice acting. Some different actions than the first release, but with the same campaign and ten maps.
Crash Bandicoot – Crashed, Crashed 2 and Crashed Warped Remastered
Full remaster for the PS4!
Skylanders: Imaginators – October 2016
Another Skylanders game, but this time you can make your own Skylanders.
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens – out in two weeks
Demo available now. A standard lego entry, although it appears that they got the movie actors to voice the characters, which is pretty cool.
New IP from Kojima. Norman Reedus stars, waking up on a barren beach with dead fish and a small child connected to a cord, very Matrix-like. He stands and sees some shadowy figures floating in the sky, before they fade out and we pan back to see a massive scar crossing his stomach and fade out. I’m intrigued….
A great looking entry to the Marvel universe from Insomniac games, combat looked crisp and responsive. Looking forward to seeing more about the overall gameplay.
A sole-survivor action adventure game that appears to be open world with a heavy reliance on a motorbike for travel, climbing, and a destructible environment that can be used to escape and evade enemies. The environment changes each time it is played and combat appears brutal and fast-moving. Has a day/night cycle and an affective weather system (e.g. it is harder to ride the bike in bad weather).
Sony really showed off the games and didn’t even show the NEO, but there is a focus on VR and games.
