Falcom’s Shareholder Conference Reveals Future of Top Franchises

A couple of days ago, Nihon Falcom revealed details about the future of their two biggest franchises, The Legend of Heroes and Ys. Since then, new details have emerged about both:

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III was revealed as a PS4 exclusive. Falcom showed off many screenshots of the game and has since revealed several story elements in a recent interview with Japan’s Dengeki Playstation magazine.

“It starts a year and a half after the end of Trails of Cold Steel II. The members of Class VII, including the protagonist Rean, have graduated from the military academy and are each walking their own path. While the situation where Rean is being used by Osborne in Trails of Cold Steel II continues, he takes a new step at the beginning of Trails of Cold Steel III.

“This time, we’ll depict the western side of the empire, and you can also go to Byronia Island where there is a giant god statue similar to the one in Nord.

“The Trails in the Sky characters from Liberl Kingdom will appear again and join the party, and you’ll link up with a certain person from Trails in the Zero. The mystery of Rean’s birth will also be revealed in this game.”

In the same issue, Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo also revealed details on the PS4 version of Ys VIII, previously a Vita title in Japan. The PS4 version will see greatly enhanced visuals, a more stable framerate, and numerous story points that had to be cut from the Vita version due to platform limitations. It will also support 4K.

Ys VIII for PS4 was given a release date in Japan of May 25th, 2017, while Trails of Cold Steel III was simply slated for 2017. No word yet on a Western localization of either title.
